The
map identifies ideal locations on the Oaks to Wetlands trail for presenting
each of the field trip's learning stations. The photographs
will help you identify each spot.
This
spot near the banks of Duck Lake provides an excellent
opportunity to view a variety of birds, including herons,
geese, and ducks. Listen for songbirds such as chickadees
and song sparrows, as well!
As you
gaze across Duck Lake, you're likely to see herons standing
on the opposite shore. You might even spot a bald eagle flying
overhead or perched on a snag!
Overlooking
the floodplain, you'll probably see Canada geese grazing
below. But don't forget to look up when you hear flocks
flying overhead in a V-formation!
Look just
off the trail for the rectangular holes in the dead tree.
When trees die, they don't go to waste. Insects and fungus
attack the weakened wood, then woodpeckers drill to feed on
the insects and to create nest cavities.
