Contact your local representatives, join the committee, or donate funds to voice your support of this wonderful addition to the area, a place where people can come together to learn, share and support more than just the refuge, but the community as a whole.
If you’ve been to the Ridgefield Refuge lately you may have seen some changes! Construction fencing went up this month and some ground contouring began for the Community Nature Center! Many of you were involved in helping it come to fruition, so come bask in the glow of construction orange signage and while you are at it, pop in and say hi!
In other news, kids have been pouring over our bridges on field trips and education events now that the sun has returned. Almost the entire summer is already booked! Stop by and meet one of our many youth employees or come to one of our volunteer-led free bird walks on the weekend! We work hard to give back to the community and on April 27th, several organizations working with Latino families will be on-site for guided nature walks and activities for Dia de los Ninos. Our small but mighty team is consistently working with accessibility groups, teachers, community members and non-profits to make nature a place of peace, curiosity and whimsy. Thank you for being part of that!
The Carty Unit is the future site of the Ridgefield NWR Community Nature Center. In-progress facilities include a new parking area, information kiosk, visitor contact station, classrooms, engaging native plants and local landscaping, and more.
In addition, there are plans to build an outdoor education and wildlife observation shelter, and to provide accessible trail and outdoor interpretive facilities.
When Amazon removed AmazonSmile, we lost our Amazon Wishlist access. Now, we have finally started one back up! Shop for items that the Friends and the Refuge Complex need to help with everything from habitat restoration to events like BirdFest & Bluegrass, and help support wildlife in little and big ways.
