Once again, the Water Resources Education Center invites the public to learn more about the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians. We celebrate “Herps” in two different ways on this day. You can begin at the Water Center for a brief “training” on the kinds of critters you might find in Clark County at 9 am. After this presentation, you can choose what site you will visit along with a field biologist and site leader. Then you can count herps for about 2 hours. Sites to choose from include areas in the Carty Unit of Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, Columbia Springs, CASEE center in Brush Prairie and along the Salmon Creek Greenway. Come dressed for the weather. We provide simple equipment, field guides, experts and snacks.
In the afternoon, from 1 to 3 pm, return to the Water Center and watch a live Critter Show, “Creature Features” and learn more about the lives and care of reptiles. Find out what you can do to protect herps and the clean water they need. For more information, contact the Water Center at 360-487-7111. We are located at 4600 SE Columbia Way, Vancouver.
