If you are 70-½ years or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit the Friends of the RNWR and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as ours without having to pay income tax on the money. This transfer counts toward the minimum required distribution rule for IRA accounts, and such distributions are free of both income and estate taxes.

This law is permanent, so you are free to make annual gifts to our organization this year and well into the future!

Why consider this giving option?

  • You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions.
  • Your gift will provide immediate benefit to the Friends, allowing you to see the difference your donation is making.
  • If you have not yet taken your required minimum distribution for the year, your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of that requirement. The Friends must receive your qualified charitable distribution by Dec. 31, 2019 for your donation to qualify for federal tax-free status in 2018.

Speak with your tax advisor for additional information, and to make sure this giving option makes sense for you.
