Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) has always and continues to inform Indigenous Lifeways, specifically regarding interruptions in seasonal patterns. Honoring TEK practices can enrich and invigorate contemporary western climate change response and land management practice.

Dr. Samantha Chisholm Hatfield is an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians and is also Cherokee. She currently works as Tribal Liaison and Research Associate for The Oregon Climate Change Research Institute (OCCRI). She has a Doctorate from Oregon State University in Environmental Sciences focusing on Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), is a research scientist, an author, an international speaker. Her other interests include dancing traditionally, singing, learning traditional languages, and is actively involved in mentoring and volunteering with Native students.
